Way to Obtain Information

The definition of artificial intelligence is a sub-field of computer science. Its goal is to enable the development of computers that are able to do things normally done by people especially, things associated with people acting intelligently. Personally, the artificial intelligence is there for assisting people in various ways. Human beings do not want any thing happen similar in the movie called, “i-Robot.” However, this concern of AI taking over human beings faded away after reading an article about artificial intelligence. In this article, the author mentions three different kinds of AIs: Strong AI, Weak AI, and Middle AI. Strong AIs entail systems that think exactly the same way that people do.

The work aimed at genuinely simulating human reasoning tends to be called “Strong AI,” in that any result can be used to not only build systems that think but also to explain how humans think as well.

Weak AIs can behave similar to humans but the result demonstrates nothing about how humans think. Middle AIs can in some context think similar to how humans think but they are not highly functional AIs. Now the question comes: Are these strong AIs truly considered to be human intelligence? or are they merely mimicking human thought process?

Of course, the similarities exist between AIs and humans. For instance, Alpha Go is a computer program developed by Google DeepMind in London to play the board game Go. DeepMind is the world leader in artificial intelligence research and its application for positive impact. In other words, DeepMind is a group of people who can write a legitimate program that brings positive impacts. So unlike other products of human beings, artificial intelligence can function intelligently almost as close to human thought process. I remember AlphaGo was a big issue in Korea when it beat Lee-Sedol, who was the best Go player in the world. This proves how artificial intelligence can be competitive with its deep learning algorithm when fighting against human beings.

However, just because artificial intelligence beat the best human being in the world, does that mean it can think similar to human beings? Humans’ effort to measure the intelligence of AI has been shown in the Turing Test. The test opens with the words: “I propose to consider the question, ‘can machines think? Because “Thinking” is difficult to define.'” Thinking is a complex human intelligent process that requires lots of inputs. For example, people think differently because they have different experiences from different environments. Even if they lived in the same environment, they perceive those environments differently in their own and therefore, it is how they perceive the information rather than how they come up with the answers. In this context, artificial intelligence may be good at giving similar outputs through algorithms that are well structured for human thought processes. However, robots can not perceive the information differently as if people did.

The statement I just made could be perplexing for people to understand. Let me make it clear. Artificial intelligence is different from human intelligence because it cannot perceive information individually. Of course, humans can make those AIs to perceive information uniquely on their own however, it will just be random perception rather than critical thinking. In this case, it is somewhat fearful of what those artificial intelligence can output. If they are making decisions on their own interests, this may cause harms to human intelligence. However, I can guarantee that human intelligence can stop the harm before it even happens. (I am thinking that people will not create this random thinking function in AIs to prevent unpredictable results.)

Therefore, I think a computing system cannot be considered as a mind. It can still mimic the mind by taking information in their own. However, that mind itself is not created by their own but by humans. Humans are special in this case because we are evolving from the birth. Surely, I was not able to write or even speak English when I was born. Through education, I expanded my boundaries of thought process and was able to obtain language skills. Instead of computer intelligence where you put the information to proceed any algorithms, human intelligence requires efforts and resources in order to develop. This is ethical because people have to earn what they know for. Therefore, I think human intelligence is completely different from artificial intelligence.
